Planning Commission Notice of Public Hearing on 05/11/2026

In 2010, the Monroe Charter Township Planners recommended that the Planning Commission and the Township Board to regulate data centers as "permitted businesses" in its Zoning Ordinance. However, the Township is proposing an amendment to its zoning ordinance to reclassify Data Centers as a "permitted use after special approval" in order to ensure that their unique operational characteristics are subject conditions necessary to protect the public health, safety, and general welfare.  Although there are currently no data centers seeking to move into the Township, we are taking these proactive steps to further the purposes set forth in our Zoning Ordinance.

We highly recommend visiting the Township Hall to view the proposed ordinance in its entirety and to ask any questions you may have.
